Hot and cold water pipe leak detection in Sheffield

Hot and cold pipe leak detection finds leaks in concealed plumbing using acoustic listening, thermal imaging, tracer gas and a borescope. Damp with no pipe in sight, a hiss in a wall or lifting flooring can indicate a leak. ADI Leak Detection Sheffield locates the pipe before opening walls or floors, in one visit.

What are the signs of a hidden pipe leak?

A hidden pipe leak shows as a damp patch with no pipe in sight, a hissing sound in a wall or flooring lifting near a wall.

  • A damp or discoloured patch on a wall, floor or ceiling with no visible pipe above it
  • A hissing or trickling sound in a wall when the house is quiet
  • Flooring that has started to cup or lift near a wall
  • A hot water system that keeps calling for more water
  • Musty smell in a cupboard or under the stairs

The leak detection case studies include an internal cold mains leak in Sheffield, with the attending engineer’s findings and repair outcome.

Where do hidden pipe leaks occur in Sheffield?

Apartment conversions in the old industrial quarter hide their pipework in the floor void between flats, so a leak two rooms away can show up in someone else's ceiling. Tracing from the wet spot outwards is how you find the hidden pipe leak without opening the wrong ceiling first.

How does ADI Leak Detection Sheffield find a hidden pipe leak?

Hot and cold pipe leak detection uses acoustic listening, thermal imaging, tracer gas and a borescope to locate a hidden pipe leak.

1

Isolate and pressure test the hot and cold pipes

Separate isolation tests identify whether the hot or cold circuit is leaking before tracing starts.

2

Listen for escaping water in walls and floors

A listening stick and ground microphone detect escaping water through walls and floors. Water under pressure gives a steady hiss that changes as the engineer gets closer.

3

Trace hot water leaks with thermal imaging

Thermal imaging reads the heat pattern of a hot water leak through plaster and screed, straight from the surface.

4

Map moisture around the suspected pipe leak

Pin and pinless moisture meters measure the spread of damp around a pipe leak, separating a live leak from an old stain.

5

Inspect the leaking pipe with a borescope

A borescope through a small hole gives a look at the pipe itself before any repair is agreed.

Once the position is found, the engineer explains it on site before any repair is discussed.

Trustpilot review: Absolutely recommended

The Trustpilot review rates Brett Steele’s work 5 out of 5.

Absolutely recommended. After a thorough survey of the whole of our premises Brett found a leaking copper pipe under the tiled kitchen floor underneath our breakfast bar 😱. Other plumbers and water pump specialists had tried and failed to detect the leak so hats off to ADI. Now we have to go through the trials of claiming through our insurance but full marks to ADI and especially Brett. Thank you so very much.

Trustpilot review: A good experience from start to finish.

The Trustpilot review rates Robert Gires’s work 5 out of 5.

Having discovered that there was a leak somewhere in the house, we called ADI Leak Detection for assistance. Their terms of business are clear and straightforward and handling of enquiry was professional and responsive. Robert, who came to the house to find and repair the problem, was diligent, thorough and did everything he could to minimise damage necessary to get to and fix the leak. It was from a pipe buried under the floor behind the built in units in the kitchen. I would have no hesitation in recommending ADI and Robert to anyone finding themselves in our position similar to ours.

I was really lucky to get an appointment at short notice. Robert arrived on time and was friendly and professional. He managed to detect the leak coming from underneath the concrete kitchen floor and repair it. He was very thorough and so knowledgeable and I was extremely relieved that the situation was resolved. I would highly recommend this business.
