Bathroom and shower leak detection in Sheffield
Bathroom leak detection finds shower and bathroom leaks using thermal imaging, moisture meters and a borescope. A ceiling stain after a shower, blackening grout or a hollow tile can indicate a leak. ADI Leak Detection Sheffield identifies the source before tiling comes off, in one visit.

What are the signs of a shower or bathroom leak?
A shower or bathroom leak shows as a ceiling stain below that grows after a shower, grout that keeps going black or a hollow tile.
- A stain on the ceiling below the bathroom that grows after a shower
- Grout or silicone that keeps going black however often it is redone
- A loose or hollow sounding tile beside the shower
- Floorboards springing near the bath or the tray
- Water on the floor with no obvious source
Damp that follows rain rather than bathroom use may need roof leak detection to check for water entering through the roof or flashing.
Where do shower or bathroom leaks occur in Sheffield?
Victorian terraces around Nether Edge and Sharrow often have a bathroom built over what used to be an outrigger roof, so a shower leak lands on an old flat roof detail before it ever reaches a ceiling. That is a job where the report matters as much as the finding.
How does ADI Leak Detection Sheffield find a shower or bathroom leak?
Bathroom leak detection uses thermal imaging, moisture meters and a borescope to locate a shower or bathroom leak.
Water coming through a ceiling under a bathroom rarely comes from the pipe. More often the source is a tray seal, cracked grout, a waste connection or a failed tanking membrane.
Map moisture around the bathroom leak
Moisture meters measure the spread of damp across the bathroom floor and the wall below.
Test bathroom wastes, supplies and seals separately
Separate tests identify leaks in the bathroom waste, supply, tray seal or tanking, which fail in different ways and need different repairs.
Flood and dye test the shower tray or wet room floor
Flood and dye testing reveals leaks from the shower tray or wet room floor. The engineer floods it under controlled conditions, watches from below and uses dye where the water path needs proving.
Trace escaping shower water with thermal imaging
Thermal imaging traces the path of warm shower water through the structure.
Inspect beneath the shower tray with a borescope
A borescope through a small hole in the ceiling below shows the joist and the underside of the tray without taking the bathroom apart.
Once the position is found, the engineer explains it on site before any repair is discussed.
What happens after a shower or bathroom leak is found?
Shower and bathroom plumbing leaks can be repaired by ADI Leak Detection Sheffield. Tray, tanking or tiling failures are reported in full with photographs so your bathroom fitter can plan the remedial work.
Every leak detection visit ends with a written report by the engineer who attended, with photographs and video, formatted for trace and access and escape of water insurance claims.
- The leak position marked on site and explained before you decide anything
- Photographs and video in the written report

Used ADI to look at an intermittent leak that has plagued us for years. Brett came round and assessed and found not one but 2 leaks to do with our shower screen and grouting. Really happy with the service and thankful the mystery is solved. Thanks!

The Trustpilot review rates Matthew Barron’s work 5 out of 5.
Due to a very large water bill we realised we must have a leak. Contacted ADI Leak Detection Co, who were extremely helpful on the phone and arranged a date for Matthew the engineer to attend. He had state of the art detection equipment which located the leak under the new bathroom floor. He fixed the leak with minimal damage. I can only say how impressed we were with Matthew's investigative skills and putting us at our ease. ADI and Matthew were exceptional and we would have no hesitation in recommending the ADI team.

Mysterious leak found
The Trustpilot review rates Robert Gires’s work 5 out of 5.
We discovered we had a leak when the unusually high water bill arrived, had no idea where the leak was - did the usual of checking taps, toilets and showers to no avail. We found this company from a search, no idea how good they were. They arranged for Robert to arrive friday - he was actally a little early and began by explaining what he would be doing to firstly locate the leak. He fully respected our property, found a leaking section of pipe under part of bathroom floor which he replaced. Then spent some time checking the water pressure to ensure there were no further leaks. Having no idea where the leak was we were quite pleased with the expertise and knowledge shown, Robert also gave us some advice about water pressures - all in all we were very pleased with the work done.

How do you arrange bathroom leak detection?

Not sure this is the right investigation? Describe what you can see on the call and ask which one fits.

What do people ask about bathroom leak detection?
Questions about bathroom leak detection cover four topics: the visit length, whether tiles come off, pipe or shower tray, and whether an insurer accepts the report.
How long does a bathroom leak detection visit take?
The technical advisor gives you the likely time for a bathroom leak detection visit on the call, when the service is confirmed, because the duration depends on the property and the length of the pipework.
Do you have to take the tiles off?
Bathroom leak testing leaves the tiles in place, using the surface and a borescope hole from below. Tiles come off only if you decide to have the failure repaired.
Can you tell whether it is the pipe or the shower tray?
Separate tests distinguish a pipe leak from a shower tray leak. Each possible source is isolated and tested, so the report names the one that is leaking.
Will my insurer accept the report?
The bathroom leak report provides photographs and video for trace and access and escape of water claims, which is what insurers ask for.
